This week's Annie is Believe in Yourself

she comes with Ella ~ her little elephant

I love how Ella's body turned out ~

after the pieces were sewed

I dunked them in coffee ~

scrunched them all up

then threw them in the clothes dryer

after they were dry then she was stuffed

and pieced together

Annie and Ella will be up on Ebay next week.

she has green eyes ~ auburn hair

she is ready to dance wearing tiny black shoes and white baby socks!

This year has been too busy for me

I have only been able to make one

Annie each week instead of my usual two

my "real" job has been overwhelming

when I get home at night I am exhausted

just can't sew as much as I would like

dreaming of retirement :)

but can't for another 5 years :(

found this free pattern online to sew a cat or a rabbit ~

the rabbit is a Sweet Softies pattern called "funny bunny"

both can be found on the sew4home.com web site

I labored for over 5 hours to get it where I kinda like it ~

my hubby said he looked cool

as I was ready to throw him in the trash ~

not sure if I will be trying the bunny yet :/

my weekend was relaxing ~

stayed inside all day Saturday and sewed ~

my favorite kind of day and very thankful for it

I didn't know how to start my blog this week hence the happy Monday ~ LOL

Shabby Cherish

this past weekend was a very productive one ~

I did take a vacation day on Friday so it was a 3 day weekend :)

~ finished Cherish plus started an order

and also the planning of a new Annie for Ebay

my last two listings on Ebay were auction style with the option to buy it now

well, one sold to the highest bidder and one as a buy it now

~ so now I do not know how I should list

I need help ~

should I continue to give the buy it now option

(as long as it is a free option)

or go back to bidding only???????

I have always loved the bidding part of Ebay as a seller ~

never knowing how much your Annie will sell for until the end ~

but when I am a buyer I only buy the buy it now items :/

any comments are appreciated

I do not sell my Annies any place else ~

just Ebay and custom orders from friends and this blog

Electricity and HEAT!!

Saturday we had a early snow storm ~

it brought over a foot of snow and loss of power to thousands ~

we were without power for over 56 hours ~

also lost 1/3 of a beautiful 50 year old magnolia tree

~ part of a cherry and linden tree too ~

God was pruning our trees for us ~

I am thanking Him for electricity especially heat!

the worst part was being so cold

~ too cold to even sew by hand ~

wrapped myself in 3 blankets and wore mittens to read by candle light ~

the university where I work is still without power

so another praise to God ~ I can now stay home and sew

Thank you Lord!

Lesson learned this week

be thankful in all things ~ especially things taken for granted

Holly and Berries

Had a wonderful weekend with my 2-1/2 year old grandson, Dominic ~

Grammy and Pops bought him a

Batman tricycle for Christmas

(had to give it to him early of course!)

he sat on that bike, oops I mean "car" most of the weekend

just playing with all the sound buttons ~

still has to learn to push those peddles though

Annie's face shows some coffee stains ~

sorry, this was not my best job of staining ~

I like when you do not see any coffee stains just darkened muslin ~

I have no idea why I did not fix her but it is too late now ~

she holds a tin star I decorated with

holly, berries and some sweet annie

Annie is dressed in one of my all time favorite

Christmas fabrics ~

unfortunately this was the last in my stash

her hair was made from Burly spun wool

Free Standing Christmas Annie

I finally finished my free standing Annie ~

her white felt jacket is removable with

hand stitched poinsettia and holly ~ the berries are tiny red beads ~

she was hanging naked on my factory wall for months

so I am thrilled she is finally dressed and ready for Ebay ~

and I am pretty sure I don't want to make another

but it is fun to try something different

Ahhh ~ back to my normal Annies

I am getting all excited about Christmas ~

I really enjoyed creating her but my favorites are still my Annie dolls

I had a busy weekend with a family reunion on Saturday

it was a wonderful time spent with family

I don't get to see often and

Sunday was spent with cousins walking for pancreatic cancer

on the bright side Pops and I will have our 2 year old grandson for an over night

Three New Annies

What a week this has been.

we experienced an earthquake ~

something that is not common at all where I live~

a few days afterwards Hurricane Irene decided to visit the northeast ~

I am thankful I live far enough inland that all we had was rain and wind

with no damage (toppled trees) or flooded basement ~ thank you Lord!

Since I wasn't venturing out in the hurricane

I was able to finish three Annies ~

even get their pictures done.

I am enjoying making extras to go with my Annies ~

Gathering Room Annie and Mouse

Welcome everyone to a new week ~

I had a relaxing creative weekend spent in my "factory" sewing new Annies.

Gathering Room comes with Annie and her

little mouse (Soft in the Head pattern) with a tiny basket filled with fabric and yarn

Keep it Simple Annie has

an acorn pin keep on a rusty bed spring ~

the wool acorn was made from a Sassafras Hill Primitives pattern

In the next few weeks I hope to work on some Christmas Annies ~

that is if time and my weary bones permit ~

in the real world ~ where I have to go to work each day ~ :/

it is the start of a new academic semester

and an extremely busy time ~

but I am very thankful to have my job ~

I know there are many unemployed

Annie's Matryoshka Dolls

Musikfest is over for another year ~

unfortunately it rained 6 out of the 10 days ~

I still had a great time with friends enjoying music.

Now my life could get back to normal ~work then home to sew Annies :)

and just had to make them.

This is an exhausting week for me. I am at work all day

and then sell merchandise at night at Musikfest.

Musikfest

Musikfest, a 10 day free music festival in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania,

is starting on August 5.

Well, some concerts you do need to buy tickets for but most of the music is free!

My friends and I work the fest selling

glow necklaces, etc. to children in the evenings.

We call ourselves "The Glow Queens"

and have a wonderful time enjoying music,

our friendship and the thousands of people who come to the fest each year.

Anyone who loves music come on down to Bethlehem

for some free music and ethnic food.

So I've been busy sewing to have Annies ready for Ebay.

Lovin from the Oven comes with her own rolling pin

and Apple Brown Betty recipe!

She has new wool hair. Paternayan rug yarn is no longer dying wool

and is very hard to buy right now.

I do have a supply but started searching for another source

for when it is all gone.

This little Annie's hair is Halcyon rug yarn,

it is a little thinner and not as soft but I do think I like it.

Heart Pocket comes with her little kitty dressed to match.

She likes to keep her hand in her "heart" pocket.

Little Hoot Annie

Lately it seems all I want to do is sew and create new Annies.

All my Annies are finished in steps ~ first bodies sewed, stuffed, stained, eyes painted and faces stitched.

Then they sit in my "factory" waiting to get dressed.

So two were finally dressed and given hair this weekend.

Little Hoot who comes with a pin cushion.

He was made from a cutter quilt.

Angels Watching Over Me

Her charm is an angel charm engraved with "Angels Watching Over Me" ~

I gave her a little white bear dressed similar ~

and a little heart pillow with "love" written with buttons.

This little Annie is a little darker than usual

(I must put an extra scoop of coffee in when mixing her stain, oops!)

This little songbird will be going on EBay today.

She has a hang tag that says "this song is for you" and comes with two little birds.

I fell in love with the fabric, it is a border fabric with a

black background and sage green butterflys....

I sketched a butterfly similar to one on her dress and then hand stitched it on a pillow.

Spider Witch is a OOAK Annie...

her felt spider is from a Rita Stuart Collection pattern.

I gave her long puffy sleeves and a black waist sash with a crystal button...

of course her witch shoes have curled toes, rusty pins and bells

...had to give her a broom too!

Summer Blessings

Just got back from a wonderful time

at the Jersey shore....visiting my aunt and

playing with my grandson Dominic.

He had lots of fun running fast and yelling...loved the ocean too!

She has a new dress style...an underskirt panel just in the front section of her dress.

I also decided to hand stitch all her facial features....only her eyes are painted.

Every year I change her a little....once before I tried stitching her eye lashes but didn't like how they looked....this time I do!

Ballerina Annie

Ballerina Annie is a new Annie.

I redesigned her body, arms, hands and legs.

She has little pointed feet, perfect for ballet shoes.

I tacked her elbows to bend her arms....

thinking of possibly added wire to her arms the next time I make her.

Anyway, I was inspired by the ballet fabric....

and I love to try different ideas for Annie and her dresses.

Taking a Short Break

Fortunately part of that time will be spent with my cousin

Amish Annie

I finally finished this little Annie ~

she hung bald on the factory (my sewing room) wall since October ~

knew she was missing something and it would eventually come to me ~

well some 5 months later it finally did, thank you Lord ~

so she is now Amish Annie with her little Amish doll!

It is cherry blossom time so just had to make Cherry Blossom.

Unfortunately our cherry tree in the back yard is not blooming yet ~

hopefully by Easter ~ I do believe the groundhog was WRONG!

This week on Ebay is my new 11" Annie ~ Liberty Annie.
She comes with her own patriotic bell.
I wanted to change her a little so she has a different nose than my other Annies.

Also finished "Tea Time" Annie ~ she comes with a tea cup ornie.

Work has been extremely busy for me and this week I have 4 events.
One was held yesterday so one down only three to go.
I also have to work next Sunday...and I don't have any Annies finished!

Raggedy Annie Baby Doll

Finally finished a new round head charmingsbycmh raggedy annie baby doll.

She was hanging naked and bald on my wall for months

with only her face painted and stitched ~just waiting for me

to bring her to life with the perfect fabric, dress and hair style.

Her dress is a blue floral eyelet with a white eyelet underskirt ~ decided to fashion her hair in a pony tail ~ sewed long strands of yarn all around her head

then pulled it back and tied in a pony tail ~

did some needle felting to help hold her pony tail in place.

If you decide to try this ~ it takes a large amount of yarn.

I'm in the Garden

Here is a little tip for my sewing friends. My friend bought me a bamboo stiletto to keep fabric from shifting when sewing ends of seams. It also helps to hold ric-rac and ribbon in place when stitching along hems. Well it doesn't take long before the bamboo is splintered from the sewing needle. In place of the bamboo stiletto I tried wooden skewers, about 100 a pack for the fraction of the cost. They do splinter faster but I just throw it away and grab another.

I am still using the pack I bought last summer!

Just finished I'm in the Garden Annie. She wears a sun bonnet and comes with a basket to gather her herbs.

Strawberry Annie has strawberry buttons on her hat, at her waist and on her shoes....she comes with a large strawberry too....oh my!

The rocking horse is my grandson's but I think it is wonderful for my Annies too. :)

New Raggedy Design

First I want to thank everyone for their comments on either a blog or Facebook.

Since I don't have time for more exposure I will be quite happy to just blog for now.

Perhaps one day...thank you all again.

Raggedy Mom isn't my new design but I posted her first.

Little Annie sits in her pocket.

This is the new Annie.

She has a larger head, fatter body and felt shoes.

I have already changed her pattern to make her head a little smaller

and her body a little thinner but here is the first version.

My sister-in-law gave me this beautiful vintage apron that her mother-in-law wore.

Annie's dress is off white with lace entirely made from the apron.

Celebrating a Birthday

Today we will be celebrating our daughter's 30th birthday.

She and her son, Dominic, are an answer to prayer.

Well I had another 2 days off from work this week because of ice and snow. I am tired of the ice and snow but thrilled to be home and sew.

With extra time I designed a jointed bunny to go with Easter Annie.

Just had to take a pic of our cherry tree....only God can create this beauty. Home from work for another day this week because of snow!

The great part is I got to finish three Annies.

Now I didn't make them all in one day, just got to finish them.

Here is my little Irish lass with a hand stitched pillow.

My husband told me to put hats on all my Annies.
Well, I'm not going to do that, but occasionally maybe for some spring Annies.

Found this little lamb over the holidays....should of bought more!

It is only 2-1/2 inches and so cute.

I am so happy with Daisy Annie and I don't know why.
Gave her a puppy in memory of our chocolate lab, Daisy.

Hope everyone's holidays were wonderful.

A few days before Christmas I managed to fracture a bone in my left foot.

Thank goodness all my shopping was done.

I ended up with time off from work to do my favorite thing ~ sew! :)

I fell in love with this red fabric and had to made an Annie for Valentine's Day ~ added a little white fabric envelope with roses.Love this fabric also. That seems to be my problem, I love to shop for new fabric. :/

Hope everyone's Christmas was wonderful.

I received the best present ever. Both my husband and daughter work holidays. My husband was scheduled off. My daughter, a nurse, was allowed to leave work early. My entire family, grandson included, celebrated Christ's birth at church Christmas Eve together for the first time in many, many years. God sure is good ~ He knew what I needed most.

A new Annie I just finished is Annie's Own Raggedy.

The pink border is vintage given to me by a friend. Annie's bodice I machine smocked.

It was such a hectic and busy week at work and at home.

The highlight of the week though was I got to play with my grandson, Dominic.

We played while his mommy and daddy when to a movie and then again for Trick or Treat.

Love this time of the year ~ cooler days ~ trees are changing ~ making Christmas Annies!

Tried a new pinafore for Annie ~ it is a holly print and tied at the sides with twine ~ her straight wool hair was hand dyed by my cousin, a fiber artist ~ sadly this is the last of it. Pops and I got a surprise visit from Dominic, our 15 month old grandson.

We got to play tonight while Mommy and Daddy spent some time together.

Two new Annies for Ebay this week are Happy Harvest with her giant corn cob and Autumn Makes Me Sing. Tried a new acrylic yarn for their hair ~ it takes a little longer to do since it is a 4 ply instead of 3 ply yarn ~ it is softer than the wool I normally use ~ I think I like the wool better ~ opinions are appreciated ~ please and thank you. :)

Prim Raggedy Ann Hair Tutorial

Thought I would do a raggedy ann doll hair tutorial.

First is the kind of yarn I use. Most of my Annie's hair is from spinayarn.com.
It is uncut wool rug yarn and I haven't been able to find it anywhere else.

They are wonderful folks with very fast shipping.

cut the yarn into desired lengths ~ I use about 10 inch lengths ~ separate the 3 ply yarn ~ fold in half and cut ~ you will have six wavy strands of yarn ~ depending upon the size of your doll's head you might want longer or shorter lengths of yarn ~

mark Annie's head along the seam ~ I use 1/2 inch spaces ~ sew six strands of yarn along the seam ~ if you want thinner hair use 4 strands ~ it's your choice ~ you are the artist ~ experiment!

Next draw three rows on the back of Annie's head ~ mark where you will sew her hair about 1/2 inch apart

When Annie's hair is all sewn on ~ give her head a little shake to fluff it out ~ now you can give her a hair cut ~ trim to desired length.

Here she is all finished with hair bow.

Three little naked and bald Annies ~ soon to be three Italia sisters!

I thought they looked so cute naked ~ they are sitting in a basket on their (need for me to sew yet!) Italian costumes ~ they will also get hangtags with their Italian surnames.

Tonight I work my last day at Musikfest ~ exhausting but loads of fun. Musikfest is a 10 day festival of free music held in the city of Bethlehem, Pa. Pops and I also had a wonderful time watching our grandson, Dominic, yesterday and he actually let Grammy sleep through the night ~ yeah Dominic!

I've been dreaming of autumn and cooler temperatures.

Records have been broken here in Pennsylvania with a very long heat wave and high humidity. Saturday it felt like 106.

Needless to say I can not wait for fall.

When I found this saying "loud rooster lives here" I just had to make an Annie doll. Then I found the little chick timer and thought how perfect. She is my smaller Annie at 12 inches tall. Hope you are enjoy her as much as I did making her.

My favorite flower is the rose so naturally I kind of buy too much fabric with roses. But this one is so pretty with a lilac background. Her lace trim is vintage and I found a cameo to add to her lace collar.

I am just too busy this summer, at work and at home. I remember summers being lazy days spent enjoying family picnics, swimming, hours spend reading, etc. Sure am wishing those days were here again. But. . .I did have an enjoyable Saturday at my great niece's first birthday party and next weekend is a huge Italian family reunion. So what am I complaining about! It is good to be alive and well. Back from Vacation!

Back from vacation and just listed "Home Sweet Home" on Ebay. I love saltbox houses and was thrilled to find this tablecloth fabric.

Had a wonderful vacation in Ocean City, NJ. As you can see, Dominic loved his first time at the beach and his little pool. My family and I have been vacationing in OC for over 35 years and each year has special memories....visited my Aunt Helen who celebrated her 90th birthday this year.

Also on Ebay is Apples & Ladybugs. This is my new 12 inch Annie and I just love her. I hand stitched her apple and "Annie" on her apron.

Now I have to get busy and finish at least two Annies for next week.

Just finished a new raggedy design. . . had wanted to do a round head Annie for awhile now and finally it all came together. She is only 14 inches long and petite. Her dress is from a vintage dresser scarf so she is definitely one-of-a-kind. I used the entire scarf for her dress, sleeves and loons. Her wings I cut from an old quilt. . . actually am quite happy with her. She is up on Ebay this week. Hope you like her too. God bless.

Martha's Vineyard Annie ~ she is dressed from Susan Branch's Martha's Vineyard Watercolor collection. This fabric was given to me by a very dear friend. Thank you, Madelyn.

Butterfly Annie ~ I fell in love with this fabric and had to make an Annie ~ brown and teal with butterflies.
